Colectivo UCC Statement on the Los Angeles Protests

Colectivo UCC Statement on the Los Angeles Protests

El Colectivo of the UCC stands in solidarity with our siblings in Los Angeles, CA, and across the United States of America as they exercise their constitutional right of freedom of speech. We concur with our California siblings in their sentiments against the abuse and injury caused by ICE raids targeting hard-working immigrants occurring in LA and around the USA.

We denounce all acts of violence towards all humans regardless of their race, place of origin, political affiliations, or who their uniforms represent. We condemn all acts of vandalism and violence and encourage all manifestations to be done peacefully and respectfully.

We advocate with our immigrant community and their families who face a broken immigration system that negates due process, dehumanizes, and creates an atmosphere of fear in the immigrant community across the USA. It inspires fear towards hard-working immigrants and hesitance from immigrant communities to reach out to authorities in times of need.

We lift in prayer the many who have come to the US seeking refuge from oppressive governments and violence since the founding of this country. We will continue to advocate for common-sense solutions that uphold the dignity of every individual, regardless of their immigration status. We advocate for a just and humane process that recognizes that we are all created in the image of God, endowed with respect and humanity.

The "Colectivo" in the United Church of Christ (UCC) refers to the collective of members, churches, and ministries within the UCC that identify, work with, and/or support the Latinx community of the UCC. Colectivo aims to be a place where Latinx people within the UCC can claim their place in the Church and together dream and work towards a more inclusive, welcoming, and representative future.
