A General Synod 35 Volunteer Thank You!
When I attended General Synod in Milwaukee in 2019 as an Associate Delegate from the KO Conference, it felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And then, this year’s General Synod in Kansas City became another once-in-a-lifetime experience because of the opportunity to participate as a member of the Local Arrangements Committee. The KO, along with the Missouri Mid-South conference, took on the responsibility for engaging, scheduling, and coordinating the volunteers from our two conferences.
In last month’s e-news, Lorraine Ceniceros, our Conference Minister, recognized the KO members of the Local Arrangements Committee. With this message I want to recognize the 56 individuals from KO congregations who donated 850 hours of volunteering as greeters, floor stewards, ushers for worship, assisting with registration and information, helping with children’s programming, and checking folks in and out in the Local Arrangements Committee office.
Each one of our volunteers served with grace and a generous spirit – and in most every instance reported a good experience. An endeavor such as General Synod inevitably results in unexpected challenges, but in every case these were minor compared to the unexpected joy and satisfaction we all derived from the experience.
So, THANK YOU to each of the 56 members of the KO Conference who gave their time and effort to help ensure that General Synod attendees received a UCC extravagant welcome.
I’m especially grateful to the members of my local church, Fellowship Congregational UCC in Tulsa, Oklahoma, so I’ll use this platform to give them a special thank you – and share this photo of our Tulsa Team!
With gratitude,
Bobbie Henderson
